So, when I was in Japan, I had the feeling that this is what heaven must feel like. You have all the fun craft and toys at your disposal, if only life is just like that. Oh yeah, it can be, if I win the lottery or something... sigh.

Anyway, one of the kits I picked up, and snuck by my mom (who wasn't allowing me to buy stuff) was the Original Keshigomu kit, gesundheit... haha, I know. Mind you, I'm a grown woman, and my mom still has that hold on me... go figure.

I highly recommend any beginner to get the starter kit. Not only it's a good value, it is also has all the basic stuff to get you started and not have to fuss with all the little parts and buy them individually.

I decided to do a tutorial because first of all, I don't read a lick of Japanese. Second, there's no clear instructions anywhere on the Interweb to show me how to do this. And while there are videos (more like commericals) for the product, and the kit does come with instructions, it doesn't help me when I try to decode Greek without knowing what I'm doing.

That said, first off, where to get this kit? I got mine at Laox store in Akihabara, which is right outside of the station. The area is known for Anime, Video Games, and Electronic mecca. The Laox store is a giant department/electronic store. Think of Best Buy but 7 stories high and packed full of stuff from movies to TVs to office supplies.

If you're in Japan, I'm sure the easiest ways to get the kit is to go to any toy stores. If you're a US user like I am, I did fine them on eBay. Another online vendor is Hobby Link Japan (http://www.hlj.com/). I have not tried either one of them, so can't tell you how they ship, but merely they are available out there.

I also thought that there's a limited release of this type of kit by FAO Schwarz, distribute throught Toys R' Us, don't mark me on that, I just saw it in passing and not sure if that's still available.

Ok, on to the tutorial!

As the first photo showed you what the kit looks like. Obviously, I would pick something Hello Kitty related. Duh!

The 2nd photo shows you what's included in the kit. It has the setting piece, a teezer looking piece to help steady your hand while placing the pieces. Cards, more like templates, and the gum pieces themselves.

If you remember way back when, rubber erasers are really made out of rubber gum. So, in Japanese, they call these pieces gum. You can use them to erase things or make something like these cool erasers.

The 3rd photo shows you the type of templates they have included in the kit. Since this is Hello Kitty based, obviously they have HK. But there are kits based on other cartoon characters. I also bought a glow-in-the-dark kit as well. Each supplement kit comes with additional gum sticks and templates, assuming that you have the holder (the pink thing).

The templates, as you can see, comes in 2 sizes. Large and small. If you're creative enough, you can make it bigger and combine pieces. You can try to make it smaller, but the difficulty lies in the fact that the little pieces will tumble over and not stand still together. I know, cuz I've tried. I do know that they have a newer kit that has spacers, so you can make a true heart shape or something else.

What you need to note is that for the smaller size it's a 10X10, which means 10 rows down and 10 columns across, that's 100 little pieces of gum for you to piece together. The larger size is 13X13. There are template on in the kit so you can draw your own, and you can get it here. That way you can design your own eraser.

On the upper left hand corner, look at the 4th photo, you see different color w/ a number next to it. That is a guide to tell you that you need that many pieces for that color. So you can peel them apart ahead of time and go w/ that guide (see 5th photo).

Once you had the pieces together like the template (see 6th photo). You are ready to pack it in. Make sure you remove the template. Since it's a cardboard, pretty sure it's not a big deal if it went thru the microwave, but if you have the eraser piece in w/ the template, it will stick. Use the 90 degree L piece to squeeze in the pieces. That way it will not move during transport. Where are you transporting it to, you ask? We're moving it to the microwave. Yes, how else did you think they would seal together?

Before you put it in the microwave, put a tablespoon of water over the pieces. (see 7th photo)The water is going to help bind the little pieces together. Do make sure that the entire piece has some moisure. No need to dump a cup of water over it, just make sure the water is spread out evenly. Once that's done, you're ready to close the holder and pop it into the microwave.

Since the instructions are written in Japanese with the assumption that the user will be using a Japanese microwave, which is between 500 - 600 watts. In US, most average is 700 watts. So, instead of melting your piece unnecessarily, you can use this guide I found on the internet. Basically, if you were to use the 500 watt microwave, you put it in for 1 minute. So, if you adjust it to 700 watts, it'll be about 45 seconds. Check your microwave on the wattage before putting this in there and melt the whole thing off...

If the eraser came out too loose or easily peel apart, then you need to pop it back in for 10 more seconds, if it's melted like wax, then you should've subtract 10 seconds. Play around w/ it, until you like what you got.

After you take it out of the microwave, put the holder in a bowl of cold water for 10 mins. As you can see, I put a towel down just in case I make a mess.

Once you open the holder, there will be some moisture that didn't get heated up and evaoprate into the rubber eraser. So it will be slightly damp, just dry off w/ the towel.

Then, ta da! Here's your final product.

As I said before, there are different kits available out there. You can drool about them here. They have glow-in-the-dark kit, Deluxe kit, sweets, tamagotchi, beans... and so on.

Sewing project...

I know this is a stamping blog, and I haven't have time to stamp... ironically I have time to sew. haha. No, not really. I have a very good reason to do it.

These past few years, I've been teaching craft and crochet at Sew Crafty here in Houston. I've actually have taught stamping classes there. I think that's a hit more for the kids than the grown ups. I think since there's more and more locals that does scrapbooking that they got their exposure to stamping than the kids do. I think that's ironic because I learned how to stamp when I was a kid. That's how my mom kept me busy for hours. Nothing fancy like they are now, but still got the idea....

Anyway, since the store was closing, we wanted to show our gratitude to our boss/owner - more like a friend, Sarah. She's so awesome that you want to drop your to-do list and make something cool for her.

So, each one of us did a block, and since I was the crazy one who wanted to do this quilt, I ended up sewing it together. Don't look too close because I know that there are alot of non-straight lines out there.... lol.

My bad, I know I haven't posted in ages. I've been doing alot of crochet work lately. No, I haven't abandon stamping, as a matter of fact, I bought some new stamps. Some are arriving, and some are still waiting for the vendors to play catch up from CHA.

Anyway, if you're in Houston and you craft you probably have heard that Sew Crafty is closing (sad face). Why it's important is because I've been teaching there for the past 2.5 yrs or so. I've taught stamp classes, craft classes (magnets & bath), but what took off was really the crochet classes.

As that popularity grew, there are more interests in special classes, which led to more research and more work. I found that stamp classes are over-saturated in the Houston area, but crochet isn't.

SO!!!! That led to me taking a leap. I'm going to do classes in the Houston area. I can do stamp and soap classes too, so tell your friends. I'm posting class info at Penguin Luau, you can also Like me on Facebook for the up-to-date class info.

I know it's been a long while, no excuse but life and work blocks the Blogger site. Argh!

Anyway, this was intent to be a mothers day card, but somehow that became just a Thinking of You kinda card.

This stamp is the new series from Stampin Up where they are die-cut but not supposed to mount on a wood block. I must say SU finally caught on that people carrying wood blocks from place to place is horrible and finally realize the space-saving thing to do is to not have wood blocks.

I know and love my woodblocks, trust me. But, the moving of blocks and space it took up , it's just became clumsy. My drawers that holds the wood block, while it's plastic, can't hold alot. Not to mention the space, it had became too heavy and when I pull them out, it rips the drawer open.

I would love it if they do the clear cling, but I also know that it will sacrifice the image and how long it'll last. Give and take, I supposed.

I know I haven't blogged like forever. Truth be told I haven't had the time, nor was I in the mood to stamp. I love to re-arrange my stamps and supplies just therapeutic enough for me.

Anyway, I got this new Anya set from The Greeting Farm, and thought it'd be cute to go w/ the circus animal. I really wanted to use the lion and the elephant, but as you can see, I was running out of room.

What else would be perfect would be the 'Announcement' stamp from A Muse. Either way, the My Cute Stamps has great quality and really cute stamps. I would say some are closely resemblance of SU. So, that's interesting.

Kid's activity box

So, I know I've been slacking on posting cards. I do have cards done, just haven't taken photos of them and put them up online.

That said, the other day, my co-worker was just baffled at what to do w/ her 3 year old. They were looking at the craft camps and theatre camps and music camps. The main thing was that they want to line up things to keep the little girl busy whenever they have some down time.

I was inspired by the Bored No More Box , it was not different than the rainy day box that I've seen people sell, but this is cheaper.

What's inside?
This is alot of stuff, but to be honest, that didn't even fill up the box.
There are some fuzzy stuff, like pom pom of different sizes. The pipe cleaners.
There's lollipop stick people, googly eyes, feathers and foam stamps.
Washable markets, color pencils and crayons.
Scissors, glue sticks, Elmer glue, and foam stickers.

The idea is that she can create something, all they need to add is paper and imagination.

If you are doing a box of your own, here's a few tips:
1, look around at the clearence section, there's tons of stickers and stuff on sale for 50cents and the kids will get enjoyment out of it.
2, while Crayola is the brand of choice, I *heart* them, their stuff ain't cheap. RoseArt is just as competitive, and frankly the kids don't care what brand they are.
3, anything that moves or different texture helps (i.e. the fuzzy stuff)
4, these are good for independent activities as well as parent/kiddy activity, so it is not limited.
5, Decorate the box too. I used PermaColor to color the box, you can stick things on there and use markers to draw on them.

Sky is the limit.

I am so giddy I cannot contain myself. I know, I know, I'm not dead, haven't crafted a while, had couple of major dance events and just really didn't have time to even slow down and breath.

But why I'm so giddy is because I got this stamp from The Greeting Farm. I have to say, they're cute and vintage-y looking. I'm very much into vintage stuff, so this is a perfect marriage for me. Plus, she's just adorable.

What else is neat, is that I made this card last night and already have someone to send it to. Lolly at Lolly Chops is doing a card drive for a friend of hers who's going thru cancer treatment. What a nice friend. If anything happens to me, I wish I have a friend like that that keeps my spirits up.

Anyway, I just adore this card because of that little Anya... Just too cute, so cute that you just wanted to squeeze.

I know I've been incommunicado lately. But with good reasons, I've been helping a national dance event. You can see some dance videos here, no, I'm not in them, but they're still awesome nonetheless.

Well, this is another new stamps that I've bought but haven't inked. I also know that I've got some picnic paper that would be great for this occasion. When I bought the paper, I was thinking the print looks smaller than it is... turns out, it's way bigger to be a real picnic cloth than it looked. Maybe I'll use it as background for another card.

Anyway, truly, I haven't ever picniked. I think we all sat on the hills to watch Shakespeare in the Park. But, since I'm really the mosquitoes' picnic, I opt to stay indoor or grab the free seats they often have.

No one had ever done a romantic picnic for me ever, so I woudln't know. Although, I used to work for a guy who gave me a picnic basket for Xmas because his wife works for Macy's as a buyer. The basket wasn't shabby, it came in like a little suitcase, and all the cups and plates snaps into place so it won't bounce about. But, never got the chance to use it.

Maybe I'll just live vicariously through my stamps.

You know, I did this easy cards for a class that are aimed for very very beginners. Just simple, stamp, color, and stick. No frills. It's meant to be easy peasy so that everyone can do it.

I, myself, just love the girl. She just have this 'oh great', expression on her face. It's just fantastic. Not like she's bored, more like she's sighing that Prince Charming is not waltzing in tonight.

I also had a little fun w/ her top. I'm very much into subtle sequence in real life. So, I'm dying to make clothes stand out in some way. Hence the little lines you see on her. It's glitter if you can magnify it. Hey, a girl can always use some bling, right?

Anyway, this card is one of the 'new' stamps I've gotten but no time to ink. I finally saw it and thought, gosh, I wish I was her. Sitting down w/ a cup of joe and just hang... *sigh*...

As it may be, no joe for me, but I love her dress, and I reused a card that came w/ an online order to be her background. I find myself doing that more and more... anything that can be reused I'll keep. That makes it very hard to live with, when I became such a hoarder.

Anyhoo... it's on a card, and hopefully more will be there. Just need to find the time. Oy!

Hope everyone had a fabulous Vday. I know it's cliche' but it's a nice day to remember to love and appreciate each other. Insert 'awwws' here.

Anyway, this is a card that feature Sparkly Fluff. It's like regular flock, but it has extra sparkly mixed into it. So, if you can blow up the picture and look at it closer, it does look sparkly-ish.

I do love flock, between flock & foil, I'm not sure which I like more. I like the feel of flock, but foil after you make it, you can also use the negative for another project. Call me cheap, actually I think I'm just a hoarder, but you can use every little bit. Why waste, right? Yes, yes, I'm a pack-rat, which drives my husband crazy. haha.

I think I've done a card like this before, but this is one of the cards I did for my Card Class. I think it's simple and showcase the clams easily.

The other day I was at Michael to look for more cards like the ones I used here. It drove me crazy that they are selling 50 for $30. While I understand in reality, that works out to be 60 cents per card, I was able to pick up a box EXACTLY like this once upon a time at Hobby Lobby for $10 less. That makes a huge difference when it comes to crafting.

You know there's a big overhead cost and you know that whatever you see now might be $5 today, in couple of weeks you also know that it will go on sale. So, why would you want to spend that $30 when in exchange, you can get alot more out of that exact $30? I know, that's the cheap crafting logic for you there, but trust me, no one wants to get ripped off when it comes to finding a bargain. And no matter how much satisfaction you have out of making your cards. You know, you're giving that away, so how much money you want to save, especially in this type of economic environment.

I know I'm on my soap box again, but true is true. That leads to buying new products. I know it's the job of each of the companies to invent/create new products on a regular basis. That's how they stay afloat, but is it such a big deal to have new stamps or new gadget or new whatever, when they get rolled out? Is it necessary to have a Big Shot & a Cuttlebug & a Revolution, when they all perform the same task? I applaud the ladies at Splitcoast who are creative, inventive and willing to share their secrets so that we don't have to go buy all these things and make each brand of gadget works together for everyone's sake. Super crazy!

Anyway, off the soapbox now... I'm just miffed because all these new stamps and I can't a, afford to buy them all; b, don't have time to ink them, and c, don't have time to play. Bitter table for one.

This is my last card from the SU series... Lukcily still in time for Valentines day.

This is a cute heart, I can see other potential with it, definitely versatile. I'm not too sure how I feel about the punch for the edges though. I have mixed feelings about that. But you know what, I think it makes the white pops out even more.

Anyway, any good plans for Vday? I know it's cliche, and it's such a Hallmark Holiday, but there are alot to be said about showing extra love and having that extra somethin' somethin' for that day. Hmmm. Can we say chocolate! Ha! Just kidding.

Anyway, I got some new stamps in, dying to ink them up... hopefully I'll get to do that this week when things aren't so busy. But I have a feeling that the rest of this week you'll still see some remain for the Vday cards. Maybe next week we'll show off the new stamps.

I think it's cute that the top few were lovey dovey, but I just love the 'like-like you', and the 'alot but not like a stalker'. That's just too true.

I was thinking... why are diamonds all of a sudden being billed and advertised as the romantic gift perfect for Valentine's Day? Frankly, I'd like accepting diamonds any day. I don't care what day it is, it may or may not be a romantic occasion, but I'd take it any day. Doesn't have to be Valentine's Day or You're-being-a-good-spouse day, ANY DAY!!! I think the marketing people miss a spot there...

Anyway, cute love-o-meter... I just love corny stuff like that... I also love the ones that spins... it just gives the cards more dimensions.

This is yet another SU supplied card. This is cool because I think this is versatile enough for a guy and a girl. I'm not much for butterflies but the swirly word sentiment goes w/ the nature of a butterfly.

The color just neutral enough to go either way. Ok, ok, a butterfly does not mean manly at all, but the color theme is neutral enough.

Can I just tell you that the little pouch thing is an ingenius idea? Putting candy w/ your card. You know the receiver would love it because not only are you sending a sentiment, you're also sending candy. And who doesn't love candy?

The downside of course is that I would be eating the candy while I'm making the card. The other thing, I realized is that, if the receiver wanted to get into the candy, they would essentially have to destroy the card. That's no bueno either... Hmmm....

I do like having the gumball machine stamp and this heart stamp to go w/ those little SU bucket for the cards... but then if people have to destroy my cards to get to the goodies, how would that work? I'm not sure how I'd felt about that.

I know, I know, we can put other things in there, but I'm just sayin'.

Did you guys know that SU is now doing cling stamps? Now, I believe their website is calling it clear mount stamp, but they are synonymous to me.

**Disclaimer: Here comes the soapbox**
Personally, while I think it's a giant step up for SU, I think it's a giant step back or even side-step of other companies, such as Hero Arts. Don't get me wrong, love their designs, but the rubber technology can stand to be improved upon.

I love my clear stamps. No matter how you slice it and dice it, I love them. Their pros are (but not limited to): price point ~ more bang for your buck, storage is convenient, and you can actually see what you're doing when you stamp. Cons are (again, not limited to): image can stand to be clearer, rubber can stand to last longer, and the ink stain like a bad flea on a dog.

Why can we improve upon something great like the clear stamp instead of going back to the clear mount? Let me tell you, I fought clear mount for a very very long time. Until I came across Rubber Romance & Greeting Farm where I was willing to give in. Unless you have some superb image that I cannot live without, and at the time, it was Rubber Romance, I wasn't going to budge.

I like my wood (haha) like any stamper does, but let's face it, whenever I move I'm literally moving wood blocks. So, the advent of clear stamps was nifty and solved alot of storage problems. Draw backs, as mentioned was the whole thing about not lasting longer. Which, I think it's very sad because as more and more talented artists emerge, and more and more awesome stamps gets rolled out, I just know 20 years from now, the rubber is not going to last that long as the red rubber would.

I know, I know, there are all sorts of nifty way to store the unmounted stamps. I do have the vinyl cling, the foam cushion, and those sheets to hold the stamps... but that's about as close to clear stamps as I'm ever going to see. I still can see where I'm stamping.

Maybe I'm spoiled, who knows? I've grew up on the good ol' wood mount. I used to have a teacher, who is always precise and it's all done by eye. No Stamp-a-ma-jig to guide him whatsoever. Thus we begin the SU projects I've done in our group. I love it whenever I go to my demo's house to play. It's like a kid in a candy store, you get to play w/ everything and you don't have to worry about finding a place to put stuff. Mainly because my place/craft room is filled to the max. My DH politely say it's ok, but we all know that the craft room is like a mini Michaels... just that I've paid for all of that.

The other day, I stocked up on some yarn, the checkout girl was like, oh guess you're making a project, huh?! Implying how much I was buying... Urm... yeah.

Anyway, it's nice to use someone else's supplies and don't have to hurt my wallet and I don't have to hurt for space... is all I'm sayin'.

This is a very simple card. A great idea my demo told me was that to just tie a knot, nothing fancy, just a knot, and put it on a card. It looks like a hard to do knot. It's pretty cool.

I saw this on someone's blog to do a very plain and simple DTP stamping. I thought, man, how far we've gone from just doing that?! I remember when I first started stamping (I mean as an adult) I would stamp all my Pooh Alphabets together and just make it spell something. Then, as I grew in stamping, I learn more and more techniques. The advent of internet really helped keep me challenged and learn from other people. And all the while we gotten more embellishments, more this and more that, we often forget the most basic thing. Just stamp on the card!

So, I'm kinda proud of the clean-ness and the highlight the technique had done for this design. I mean, how often do you see that anymore? Don't get me wrong, I still like my bling, my paper and my punches, but I do miss this technique. And as simplistic as it maybe, it's actually not as easy to achieve as everyone thinks. You do have to fill the space some and you do have to line things up just so. I'm just happy w/ the clean and tidy look it has, and still manage to convey the lovey dovey message.

This is my 2nd card for my swap. They did say that the card can be adult themed, so here it is. I guess, I wouldnt' exactly say it's not kids-appropriate, but it's better suited for adult, I'll admit.

Anyway, I did painstakingly put on the little holes one-by-one. I hope whoever gets this would like it. For a while, I was thinking that they remind me of the lights at a dressing room mirror where there's lightbulb all around it.

I like the 'xoxo' thing too, everytimes I see it, I wanted to say 'you know you love me, Gossip Girl'. ha! silly I know. Obviously I've watched the show too much to get that natural reaction. Oy!

Well, work is swamped and things are happening left and right, so better go back to it. :)

This is one of two cards I'm doing for a swap. I've signed up on Swap Bot, and you can swap whatever handmade. If you're a knitter or a crocheter, you can swap something, if you're a quilter you can swap something, and if you're a stamper, you can swap something.

I've got alot of swap group experience, and I like Swap Bot because you are not burdening one person to manage the swap. If you want to start a swap you can, and people can sign up if they like. It's not overwhelming to one person to always come up with themes, and keep track to make sure the participants were honest in sending their part.

The beauty of using the Swap Bot is that they have ratings like eBay does. If this person followed instructions and did what they signed up to do, you can give them a good feedback. If they didn't do their parts, you can note that on there as well.

The weird thing, I thought, was that when you sign up for a swap, they do ask that you have certain numbers of rating before you can participate. That is good and bad. Good because you know you'll have reliable people to attend the swap. The bad to this would be that if you're new, like I was, then you have nowhere to start.

Either way, I'm enjoying it... would let you know if I see any interesting swaps coming up. :)

I'm looking at the card and suddenly really want some strawberries... weird, huh? Power of suggestion, I'm telling ya!

Well, Houston finally came out of the freezing mark. There were interesting part where the plants froze up like a sculpture, it was pretty but too cold for my taste. I don't know how people living up North do it. I'd want to stay inside 100% of the time. Telecommute for me, thanks! Geesh.

The funny thing is, despite the freezing temperature, people were still out and about. The places we danced was packed, the restaurants around town were packed. So, I guess that doesn't deter people as much as I thought it'd be. Hmm...

Anyway, back to the cards... I think in terms of food alot of times, and when I am working on something it leads me to something else. I picked these sticker set up from Joanns and then I just kept trying to find cards that matches... and as alot of things in live, it happens when you're not looking for it.

I had thought about doing a 3D strawberry w/ the stamp, but this 3D one is so much better... so there you have it...

I started to play around w/ Vday cards. How can you not when you walk into all these stores and they're all ready for Vday stuff since the day after Xmas. Crazyness.

What else is crazy is that it's 25 this morning in Houston. We're pretty far South, how can we get below freezing mark? I was a tad disappointed that there's no precipatation to have a little snow. How fun would that be? Well, actually it wouldn't be fun if I have to drive in it, but otherwise, it would be neat.

Anyhoo, the Froggies... I like them, they're too cute together. I was going to do some sort of background on them, but I like them the way they are. I may do the background thing still, but I'm having fun w/ other stuff that's for Vday. For some reason I'm more inspired to do the Vday stuff than the Xmas stuff... go figure.

Slacker, I know... this is the 5th day of the new year, how does it feel? I bet you're like me, still writing 09 at the end of checks and things you sign. Yep... I kept having to do cross out because I can't get used to writing 10 yet. Not to metion the past decade, all the years ends with zero-something, now I have to insert one in front it'll take some gettin' used to.

Can you beieve this crazy cold blast? It's going to get down to 20s in Houston. Houston... the place that gets 100 in the summer. Talk about a big gap.

Well, in case you can't tell, I got a new camera... it's a spiffy Hello Kitty camera, yep, and it's lightyears newer than the one I had. Of course, when I had my old one, that was 'top of the line' and now, I'm going for form rather than function... it's Hello Kitty and that's that.

Ok, now to the card... this sure worked out better in my head than in actuality, and not to mention, the new camera definitely can highlight the flaws. Yikes! But, the thought was to have the people's silhouette be covering the words, a la Savvy Stamps style... It doesn't turn out too bad, but now up close, you sure can tell the ink pad is not doing as good of a job as I first thought.... hmm...Oh well. *shrug*

Man o' man, it's only T-2 till Xmas. Can you believe it? It's super crazy that last time I was at Walgreens that they started to roll out the Valentine's day stuff. Seriously?! Let me enjoy Xmas to its fullest, then enjoy the after Xmas sale and the year-end clarence sales before Valentine's day happens. The retailers are hurting so much that they are constantly having sales, and they blur the lines of seasons for clothing, and now they practically did away w/ the clarence sales because they're at a constant sales state. It is as though they are speeding up time.

I remember what a mom used to tell me she'd do. She would buy the M&M candies in bulk, and keep the extras, then pick off the red ones for Valentines day and the green ones for St. Patrick day. While, I thought it's clever, I also thought, who would want chocolate that's 3 months old. And more importantly, who would have chocolate that lasts 3 months at their home, especially M&Ms. Everyone loves M&Ms, they are the first candy that goes, are you kidding me? That's crazy.

Anyway, I'm going to try to stamp some since I'm taking Xmas Eve off. I haven't taken that day off but like 2 times prior to this year. Mainly because it's a slow day, people thinks that we're closed so no one calls us. Then, on top of that, it's a 1/2 day for the stock market, yet work will consider that a full day if you take off. So, might as well save that day for a rainy... well, you know what I mean. BUT! I am taking off Xmas Eve and hope to get some crafting done. We'll see how much I actually get done.

Apologies for the fussy picture, but I was in a hurry to post this for you. That'll teach me!

Anyway, a girl can always use a drink during this crazy season. I was at the mall last night at 8:30p, it was pleasant not having to rush because the mall is about to close. They were all opened till at least 10p. One store is opened till midnight. Wow... I'd be in bed by then. I know it's partly on the economic downturn, blah, blah. On the other hand, it is truly a convenience for the procrastinators we all know and love. Lucky for them, there are people who are willing to accommodate.

It was funny because one of the clerk was like, stay with us, we'll give you a discount. I'm like, no thanks. I've been there. I worked the crazy holiday shift when I was in high school. The life-ers who actually does retail fulltime were very aggressive and competitive to open store credit accounts and get the next sales. Frankly, I just care that I get a discount and some spending money. Don't really care for commission... I do remember the horrendous sight of moms fighting over kids clothing, which inevitably made the display looks like Tazmainan Devil had passed thru it. I remember my dept manager was a super nice guy, good looking in a gentle way. Also thought how did a great guy like him ended up being a manager of childrens dept of a department store. ANYWAY, I digress.

So, as I was saying, a girl can use a drink during this crazy time. I made this card for a friend who mentioned that she never seen reindeer cards anywhere. You say what? Well, let me show you!

I just love the classic Father Christmas. I don't even know what or how I ended up w/ the rubon, but it was sitting in my pile that I call my craft room. Somehow the class look is just one of the nicest thing about Xmas you can always admire. Just like the Coke Classic Santa. Have you ever heard of people bring back the word 'Wassailing'? I heard it recently, and I've always thought that has something to do w/ drinknig Wassail. Wassail, the drink, it's nothing more than mulled spiced cider. I've always associated that as part of the English tradition, because when I go have high tea during the holiday months, I can always rely on those shops to get some decent wassail.

As opposed to Wassailing, the act of, that is really caroling. They did use to sing to the apple orchards so they will have good harvest the following year. And the Middle English, that's when they would go door-to-door and wish each other health, even people they are feuding with. So... that's a nice story to tell.

I did this because a co-worker in Atlanta and I were just talking about the Christmas Story. How they all went out to the Chinese place and the guys were singing Fra-ra-ra-ra. And doesn't matter what you're doing and what your knowledge or feeling about that movie, that scene just makes you laugh. So... thus the singing.

I just love this time of year, even though it was tremendously busy, I just love it... everyone seems to be in better mood even though you have tons to do.

This one is exactly that, you have little girls getting ready for setting up the tree and pulling presents together. I actually sent it to my friend and her 2 daughters. They're the cutest things ever!

I did 'frosted' the card with Liquid Applique. I have to say, I like liquid Applique way more than Snow Writer, even though I don't have to heat the Snow Writer. I saw at Michaels that there's a glitter snow writer, maybe that'll be better. But truly, you can tell that the Snow Writer is really for harder services than paper or cards.

In other news: I made VP at my work. This is a great honor and I've been working towards it for a few years now, so it's awesome to be on the other side. Yay me!

Amid all the birthdays and the memorial service, I did make Xmas/Holiday cards. I've always tried to be very PC when it comes to stuff like that. I think what got me was my first year at my work where the guy I work closely with in NY is Jewish, and when I said Merry Christmas, he paused and responded Happy Holidays. Ooops... Now in my defense, even though I work closely w/ him and talk to him daily, I've never met the guy. Even now, I've been with the firm for 7 years, and I still haven't met him.

Anyway, so I tried to make pretty decent amount of Holiday cards to accommodate the non-Christian or agnostic friends. I suppose, I have to respect theirs as others expected them to respect ours. It's only fair.

Ok, this card: this stamp you've seen everywhere... everyone has it, it seems like. I have to admit, it is a very pretty design, and the prop is definitely well deserved. I've seen some very pretty scenes made w/ it, I've seen tags, and other ways to incorporate this image to the scene.

I just prefered it to be simipler way, just a stand alone, and though you can't see it, I did dotted the little flair w/ a glitter pen. It's makes it more 'magical' in a small way. Hopes whoever gets it sees it that way.

Amid all the Holiday hub-bub, there are a few bdays happening amongst my friends. My mom's was Thursday, a friend celebrated his 40th and another friend celebrated his 5Xth. We'll have couple more friends coming up...

I would say that I like celebrating bday as much as I like Christmas. Christmas has meanings in so many levels; I appreciate people's traditions, the religion traditions that I have personally, and just all around a great joyous thing. Birthdays on the other hand, it's special because it's celebrating the day that person (your friends or family members), it's your day; without which you wouldn't be there... ok, that was a tad exaggeration, but I always treasured that Bday is yours and yours alone (and however many billion of people who shares it), but it's special.

Anyway, this card my mom requested for her friend's bday. It said, Everyone Knows on the front, but the inside said, birthday cake calories don't count. Seems appropriate since both her and my mom are known for driving around town for food and shopping.

I had to do another sympathy card, this time is for a co-worker's dog. She doesn't have any children, so her pets are her kids. Don't worry, she's not one of those crazy lady with 100 cats or something. She has more like a zoo. She has couple of dogs, couple of cats, a parrot and something else.

It seemed silly to cry over a dog when our boss just passed away. But she has this dog since it was a pup, and this dog has been w/ them for 11 years. So, it's really family to her. She even said she felt awful crying so hard about her dog when our boss passed. I was telling her, it's not like she's closed to the boss, but she's definitely close to her dog, so that makes tons of sense.

The sad part is that there's another pup in that litter that she adopted and the surviving brother is always looking around the corner for his older brother. I think lucky for them they have short term memory, but I'm sure he still wonders.

I made this one for her, and there's a very nice saying also from Verve Visual, that said: Life is not measured by the breathe we take, but by the moments that takes our breathe away. I find that very appropriate for her and her loss.

Well, I hate to blog about a Sympathy card because that usually means something bad happened to someone and their family. It's a very emotionally charged event.

This time is my boss' passing. He's been diagnosed w/ brain cancer July 4th of last year. He's been ill for 16 months. Even then, he's outlived the statistic of 6 months. The whole thing is very scary and very sad. The illness grew so quickly that you really see him deterioate before your eyes. He had gone from not being able to move his left side of his body, to a wheelchair, to essentially dead weight, to losing his sight, and losing control to even open his eyelids. That said, his mind was sharp till the very end. We've visited him and while he would repeat himself here and there, he still was quick to return wits. I think what kept him going for so long was because of his positive energy. That's what the people he led needed, that's what his family needed, and that's what he needed.

He finally lost his battle after Thanksgiving. We went to his Memorial Service this past Saturday. The service was upbeat, but that's very true to his characteristics. The tributing words from his friends were also very candid and very him. The place was packed, and you realized not only is he influential in the city, because most of the guests were the Who's Who of Houston Businessmen, but also he had touched alot of people's lives. There were some standing room only.

I made the card and sent it to his family because I knew I wouldn't be at their house to pay my respect to the family. First of all, I'm terrible at situations like that. Second of all, I never know what to say. So, a card seems very appropriate.

This is one last project we did at the SU Demo's home.

It's a DSP folder transformed into a legal pad holder.

The whole process was very nifty, and I have to give props to the ladies who are clever enough to come up with it.

Basically, you open up the folder, re-fold the lines and then tape down the bottom, insert the legal pad, and put a velcro, and voila. I know, that's not helping you with squat, but here's an instructions I found -> Click here.

I know there's another one out there that has a step-by-step photo on there, but will keep searching for ya.

Otherwise, it's snowing down here in Houston. That doesn't happen very often. Last year they snowed outside of Houston, and people were alarmed. This time, it snowed and I do mean snowed downtown. It hasn't stuck on the streets, but snowcapped several buildings. So, it's a sight to see. Of course, the city is shut down because people don't know how to handle this type of weather down here. Last time it snowed like this was about 6 years ago and it lasted for couple of hours. This time lasted almost all day... so that'll be interesting.

Well, this week is slowly going back to the 'normal' mode. People stop asking about how Thanksgiving was, instead the topic of conversation around the office has been Xmas presents and Tiger Woods. Oy!

So, this is a neat little pouch that you make with 2 die cut tags. You fold the tags and the form the bottom when you glue the 2 bottom parts together. What I love about it is that it is easy to make and I can just get a bunch of tags done at one time. My favorite part is that you can put a candy in the middle. Perfect for a little gifty for students and what nots. Quick & easy!

So! Did everyone recover from Thanksgiving ok? Did you go line up outside a store at 3am in the morning? I've always thought that's crazy and unless they're going to sell a TV that's worth $1000 at $200, you cannot get me out of bed at that ungodly hour. Haha!

For my project today, it's a tin that you can store cards and nifty stuff in. It was pretty clever for such a simple project. Just a tin, 2 different cardstock, wrap it around the tin. Wrap the ribbon around it, and just add tag. Tres' easy.

Alright... are we all still recovering from yesterday? I know some people had 3 thanksgiving dinners to go to... talk about popular, and stuffed!

Anyway, I'm kinda in a better mood about the holidays now that Thanksgiving had came and gone. I'm telling you, I usually have my Xmas/holiday cards made in the summer, this year time just flew by. Now, I'm more in the spirit of things and am ready to go!

This is one of the cards I did at the demo's class. I just really like the container that you can hold whatever. I've seen some had candy inside, which is good concept, but that also mean that your receipent will have to tear your card apart. So, good in concept, not so good in reality. Plus, I still like the old way of doing shaker cards, and you can put beads and stuff in there.

So, today, Black Friday! You don't even have to roll out of bed and fight the crowd to take advantage. Bless the souls who put these together, but go check them out, you may find something you want/need without having to stress out about finding a parking spot.

This is another project from the class I was telling you guys about. This one is a gift card holder. It is kinda cute and I didn't take a photo of the inside, but it's pretty cute and neat.

The card itself is cut from a die cut, and dummy me had forgotten about the folding part. So, the first time that I did it, I had cut 2 pieces instead of one long piece. Duh on me!

The back, which you can't see very well, is actually rolled over w/ a big wheel stamp to create a subtle background. The Dec 25 is a stamp matched w/ a punch. The reindeer is perhaps my favorite part. Of course, it really gave it a personality. He was made w/ die cut of a damask, we punched the nose and eyes, and I think there was a punch of the oval for his face as well. It was funny because the sample in the class had his face straight on, I just moved his nose and gave him a mouth. Still adorable. So cute that I don't think I'm gonna give him away. Hmm...

So, I was on vacation and as luck would have it, I got to catch a class with my demo. Can I just tell you that my demo is super duper awesome?! She has the best projects to offer out of all the demos I've met. I think that's one part of their business that alot of people lacks. I think the demos usually in such a hurry to push their business that they don't realize what keeps people coming back is great projects that showcase the products they're trying sell.

Some of the demos I've met, they do these very simple card projects. It's hard to blame them because alot of them are novice stampers themselves. While that works for their friends and families who don't stamp or craft or scrapbook; but for someone who's been doing it for a long time, we need something that will challenge us. And I appreciate what I learn and get to stretch my brain to do something different. Anyway, thank you Judy!

Well, when I was waiting for my vacation to come around, I was anxious and was thinking that I'll have time every day to create stuff. And I mean every day.

Ok, to be fair, I did create some daily. I had made the wreath, I baked, and made candies. I had hit the ground running since I had my first day off. And now being more than 1/2 way thru, I still have tons to do. How can that be?! Argh!

This card is another product of the KI Memories kit. Sometimes, the most simplest design makes the cleanest looking cards... That's kinda cool... not too much stuff to crowd it. Don't get me wrong, I love all the accessory and embellishment like the next girl, but sometimes, it's nice to be simple.

I know, the big o' slacker that I am... still slacking, I only have a scrap card to show, not even a stamped card... I know. Mea Culpa. Let me tell you all those Catholic guilt is working great and the sad thing is no one standing over me with a ruler, and I still feel bad. Oy!

Anyway, the most serendipitous thing: the other day, i was taking something out of my trunk and I found this card kit in there. Yeah, I do that. I buy stuff on sale, probably either close out or clearance. I didn't have room and didn't want to take it into the apartment, and just left it in the car. So, I saw the edge of the box peeking out, and thought: ah-ha! I can use their sketch and make something. So, I got a new set of supplies to play with.

I wasn't quite ready for Holiday Cards, but i know I have to get there soon enough. The sad thing is, I'm on vacation from work, and not going anywhere; yet, I have not been in the craft room. Every single day I've been running errands all around town. Last night I finally get to sit down and that is to file away paper stuff. No creative time.

I'm going to a Letterpess class tomorrow, let's hope that will jump start some creative stuff.

Ok, ok. I know this is supposed to be a stamp blog, but it's really my craft blog. So, you'll get to see my other craft. I'm on vacation, so that translates into I have time to do things. Ha!

This is a Fall Wreath:

I followed instructions here, they're easy to follow.

Here's the closeup:

A few tips for making this... the foam wreath was messier than I thought it'd be. The little bits of foam started to fall off and it's all over my shirt and my jeans. So, having a roller that picks up dirt and fuss, would be handy. I would cut the ribbon even longer than the instructions have recommended. The ribbon length made a prettier tail as you are tying them.

If you have clicked into the instructions, you'll see how much impact you get when you do it in one solid color. I was trying to make some Fall theme, so added some diversity. But, hindsight, I think I would've liked a solid color too. Maybe something to try if I do it again. But I like how it turned out...

I know you've been waiting all day... Sorry took me so long, but stuff got hectic. I am, however, greatful that everyone's had some great suggestions for inspirations. I am about to have 2 weeks vacation from work (it's mandatory) so I'll definitely go check out those places and get something decent put out on the blog. :)

I know I'm a big time slacker... just don't know what's going on w/ me that is just unmotivated. Nothing big happened to me or anything. No big event, but just not in a mood enough to get my stuff together and work.

And I need it! Not so much to my commitment to myself, but more for the sanity part. Crafting has always been my de-stresser, and while I am all strung out, I'm not motivated enough to craft. Hopefully that changes this weekend and have something decent to show. :)

Bubble bubble Toil Trouble.... I always thought that's the funniest line in MacBeth. Considering how the play is so serious, but that line is so funny and cute. Frankly, I think that's how it got me hooked.

Anyway, I had the most fun with new stamps... I am totally in love with the background stamps. *heart* Not that I haven't played with them before, but these nice and pretty ones totally just good for everything. And I do mean EVERYthing.

So, this is nice and simple, very much a Savvy type card. They liked to have the fancy background w/ nice solids to make the image pop! Well, you can't really see it, but some of the bubbles has little glitter on there. Yay glitter!

Hola... Happy Fall/Foggy day!

Here's another scrap card that I did in a jiff. I really liked the 3D embellishment when I was at the store. Not thinking what would I do with this, I just bought it on a whim. So, had to put it in good use somehow.

Does that ever happen to you? You like something, went and buy it, then later sit here and go, what the heck was I thinking buying this? Oh yeah, I was buying on a whim. I vowed to buy craft stuff like buying clothes: buy essential pieces, and update when necessary. Allow yourself to buy one trend piece per season. Don't go overboard. Everyone needs a pair of good jeans and a good white t-shirt. That is like having your best black ink and your white card stock paper.

Aside from that, Houston finally got a small taste of Fall. We finally had a 'cool' front. Then it quickly left us. So, it's back to gloomy, muggy, and rainy for us. For a sec, you might have thought I'm in Seattle. I wish! At least it won't be hot and I'll have good coffee.

Here's another copy-catter card. This is also from Paper Source. Of course, since theirs is foil and printed, their colors are more vibrant. But, I'm seriously re-thinking about doing the same card but using StazOn and see if it gets any brighter or not.

I am actually very proud of this stamp set I got. It's Martha Stewart stamps and I got it for $5. Wohoo, I *heart* a sale. Any sales! Cha-ching.

The tree itself actually have 2 doves attached to each sides, but there just wasn't enough room. So, the tree will have to do. Plus, if you look closely, you see all sorts of stuff other than leaves, you see pears, ornament, birdes, wonder if they're pardridge or not. At the top, I had to put a star, just seems appropriate.

You know what was funny? Everytime I think of the Cornish Heritage Farm, I always came up with Cornish Ham Farm. I guess subconsciously, I want some cornish ham? Or maybe, I want some Cornbeef Hash, which is really my favorite. Yummm

This is what I call an Impressionist card... it looks good from far away, but a whole lot of mess when you look closer.

As much as I like to blame it on the camera, I know it's not it. I wasn't feeling it was the thing. Have you ever had those days where you really want to make something, anything, whether mojo is with you or not. Seriously, I feel that way all the time.

Often times, I go to the stores looking for inspiration. It doesn't matter if it's craft stores or clothing store, I'm just looking for splurt of color to jump out at me. Since I don't pay too close of attention, often times what ended up happening is that me going to those stores to buy things I don't need. Like I don't need another set of stamps or another paper pack. I need those things like I need a hole in my head. But, it's so pretty... it's a losing battle, I tell ya.

I know for sure this weekend I won't be able to do much crafting since I've invited a couple of LA to teach a workshop for Lindy Hop. Hopefully I can get back to it soon!

As I've said before, I'm totally not a Halloween girl. However, I can't help if the store has good stamps on sale. Sale, that's my favorite 4-letter S word. I totally am a sucker for those. I absolutely understands that stamp companies need to make a living and compensate for the overhead, but how can you say no to a bargain?

I would say out of my craft area that 80% of the supplies I bought on discount. I hate to pay full price and refuse to do so. I know I'm cheap, but when things get switched out as frequently as they do days, I might as well save some when I can. Plus, I'm sure the stores that are selling them (with maybe the exception of LSS), they are not hurting. I'm talking about the Michaels of the world, or the Hobby Lobby of the world. So, I absolutely don't feel bad.

That said, my friend was asking where does everyone buy their supplies. If I can help it at all, I would get it from the manufacturer. Simply because I know that they get to keep all the profit instead of having to go thru a middle man. Now, again I will be cheap about this: if they offer a really deep discount, or no shipping that is more enticing, I would go for that too. After all, who's looking out for your pocket, but you?

As quickly as our Fall weather arrived, it left for the weekend. We were back to the 90s. Bleh! It sucks because on TV and stores, everything is in full Fall mode, yet the weather is no match whatsoever. In my apt, we're in the 70s and when you walk out the door it's 90s plus humidity. Yuk!

Anyway, needed a quick scrap card. The little squares had screamed at me in the store to buy it. So, I did last year at the store. But it's been a year, and now I'm sitting here thinking, how will it get thru the mailing system. As we all know, the USPS isn't exactly the most friendly to 3D any mail. Hmm....

Well... they don't call them quick for nothing... the mailing part is a whole different story. Guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. :P

Fall... again! So, in Houston we finally got some Fall-like weather. It's high in 80, low 65. I know it's summer for alot of people, but that's Fall for us. Sad, isn't it?

Anyway, I saw a very cool stamp of some nice leaves falling, and it's one of those, I'll go back and buy it someday type purchase. I didn't write down the name of the company, so it's kinda lost now.

Back to the card... I think I over did it w/ the 3D embellishment stuff, but I was thinking, having a leave is good by itself, but the little swirl has to go with something, somewhere. The swirl alone would've been awkward either by itself or with something 2D. Anyway, took a chance... whomever getting it will like it. I'm making that happen, haha.

This entire week has been busy, and the entire October seems to be busy too... *sigh* hope I get some quality craft time in there.

So, as I was telling you all earlier that I'm not much for trick or treat. The whole dress up thing is completely lost on me. I blame my parents for not letting me do that when I was younger. I did have my own Barbie, and I changed her once or twice because I think I only have that many outfits to change her into and out of. I think that's why I don't like switching out my purses.

Anyway, I digress. Back to Halloween. When I first came to this country for a full school year, the kids would be all excited about it. My cousin would always go around and say: Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet, Give me something good to eat. I thought that's funny and rude at the same time. But it also have some endearing quality to them. So, that's very appropriate here.

The kids are hungry for candy, and the saying just said it all. :)

I know I've been slacking, but I swear this past week has been super busy. Don't even know why or how, to be honest. I think this weekend has made up for it though. I got time to actually sit down and catch up w/ some TV and crafted.

This is another Halloween card. Truth be told, I'm not much of a Halloween person. Never into dress ups, or knocking on people's door to ask for candy. Sometimes I fear that people will scare me, and I'm a scatty cat. I am, however, all over the candy. So, I say: bring it on.

In my office, everyone pitch in and buy candy for the candy dish. One of my favorite was Starburst. I must've popped at least 5 or 6 before 10am in the mornings. That's not the worst. One year, I was chewing away, and realized that my crown had fell out. It's the most awful feeling. You didn't know if you're chewing something in the candy as your parents would've scared you to death with, or am I chewing one of my own tooth, a fake one at that. Needless to say, I've stayed away from any chewy candy since and I don't even dare touch taffy. Geez.

Anyway, back to the card, since I'm not much of a Halloween person, I don't have alot of Halloween stamps. Unless it's cute, then I'm for it. So, any stamps you see here, are pretty much my entire collection. So, bare with me.

I really liked the flocked skulls. I'm not much for skulls either, doesn't matter how cute they are. But, what the hey. Can I just tell you how much I love the rub-ons that are sticky for flocking or foil. If you ever have to flock, that's the cleanest way to do it. No fuss and no muss, literally.

So, thus command the Fall season... let the candy flow!

This card is 100% inspired by Marlene Lo. I saw her blogpost about using just red and white for Xmas cards. That just so sharp and clean.

I tried to C.A.S.E. it, and it doesn't have the fancy edges she does, but I was pretty pleased with how it turned out. It's nice and clean and seemed to work out just fine. I had to put some bling on him, even though, really, he shouldn't be the one that gets bling-ed.

I had to have ribbon and floss on it. Actually, it's crochet thread from my crochet jewlery class. It's nice and thin, perfect for adding dimension to the project.

Well, I'm starting my French Lessons this week, so wish me luck on that. It's 7 weeks long. So, that should allow me to get to Paris and eat some pastry (not that I'm going anytime soon). If anything I can still point and smile, like I did the first time I went to Europe. :)

No, not the movie by Mariah Carey, which did anyone actually see it? I wonder what the movie about. People kept saying how bad it is... not that I have any desire to see it, just wanted to know the premise. If I ever have time to waste, then I might consider but I'm guessing not. Haha!

Well, since we're fall-ish, I'm finishing the week out w/ another Fall card. You have no idea how hard it is to do that when you are living in 90 degrees with 90% humidity. The sad part is that it's not raining outside... yep, 90% humidity and no rain. So, you're just walking in a sauna. Last night we were playing tennis in the sauna... lovely, isn't it?!

Alright back to the card. I was moving stuff from one side of craft room to the other, and found my Sugar Coating by Doodlebug. How can you deny yourself of glitter, I ask you? You can't! That's what I thought too. So, I stamped w/ the Versamark (cuz it's JUICY!) and used the Stamp n' Bond. Now, can I tell you, how I'm so not a big fan of Stamp n' Bond? Because it doesn't stick to the Versamark well, and any and everything sticks to a juicy versamark image. Then, once I fired up the heat gun, it melted, it stuck a little and then the adhesiveness went away. HUH??? The whole idea is that it sticks... but it doesn't.... Hmmm...

I was just too lazy to take out my Glue Pad, but let me tell you, that has never failed me and it worked, just a pain in the arse to go dig it up, find the refill, fuel up, and then just for a few images. :-/

Well, now we learn.... it worked out for all intensive purposes, but I would've love to have something that sticks well. Stamp n' Bond, worked on some not on others, Glue Pad = works.

So, yesterday I had the normal/human witch card, and today, I have the Elphaba card. For those of you who don't know who Elphaba is, you may have known her as the Wicked Witch of the West (WWW). Elphaba is based on the book Wicked, which then turned into a very successful musical on Broadway. Her thing was that she was an outcast, which we all know becuase she's green, and because as such, she was kind to the underdogs of the world.

That said, the story goes thru to how she became the WWW, and how she was merely misunderstood. And that Galinda, wasn't all that nice, she was at the right place at the right time. Either way, the story is really a prequel to Wizard of Oz.

Speaking of Oz, I remember seeing a SciFi (which is now SyFy) channel original series called OZ, and it's so funny, same premise, but instead of calling it Oz, they're calling it the O.Z. which makes me thinks of the O.C. Go figure. There were parts that are dragged out (it was like 6 episodes long), but there are parts that's very true to the story. So, that's that.

Anyway, back to the card, I went ahead and hung the Halloween stuff on there to add a bit of interests to the card. I'm not even sure if they celebrate Halloween in Oz, considering everyone is already in 'costume'. Not much of a point to dressing up, huh?

Speaking of Halloween, we saw that Coraline is finally available for rent on iTunes store, and we'll have to get the digital copy of Nightmare Before Xmas. I love that movie, it's so appropriate for Halloween and for Xmas. So cool!

As the Fall season on TV fast approaching, so is the waredrobe. Now, I must say, in Texas we are still in the 90s, but we're in the lower 90s than the higher 90s. Like in someway that makes a difference. The key is really the humidity. If it's low, it truely can feel like a real fall. Nah, what am I talking about, heat is still heat. Bleh!

That said, we're already in September, and traditionally, that's where Fall comes in. Sadly, we have no color turning type event here down South. And one of these days I swear I will go and do that. For now, I just have to live vicariously thru other people and craft.

Onto the card:
I always love Rubber Romance's Divas. They're so well done and still keep that mystique about women. So, this is a witch, and I found a stamp at the dollar bin that said Wicked, and I just had to have it.

Hindsight, I guess I should've made her green, to go w/ the Wicked theme. Hmm... maybe not too late to make one. I would love to have one that's Ga-linda. That'll be awesome. Let's see if I can find my 'popular' stamp to go with that. Nice... wheels are now churning.

Well, it's not entirely true. I just started making the cards, doesn't mean that I'm starting on the holiday stuff yet. Since it's still 90s in Houston, I'm not very inspired to do anything Fall-ish. I mean, when it's Summer outside, how can you force yourself to remember the crisp Fall air around you? It's like going to the store when it's 100 out side and they started to show the Fall clothing line. I'm still thinking about how to cool off, and here they are talking about corduroys.

Anyway, I am getting to be a bigger fan of Joann's because they sell the $1 stamps more frequently and more likely new shipments will come thru. Versus, the Michael I live by and the one near the skating rink, I think they kinda gave up on those stamps. Most of the stuff they have in the store I've either seen, or have no interests in, and none of which are Fall or Xmas related. But I think I will go back and check in later.

Not that anyone had asked me, it's just based on what I've read on the Interweb, there's alot of dissonance about SU making their Demo sign the newest agreement. You can read more here.

I'm not a demo and have never considered to be one ever. I think in Houston, the market for SU has been oversaturated, so I don't feel the need to be another number of a pyramid-ish marketing scheme. You have a lead and you're part of that team. The only saving grace is that the ladies I know that are part of teams, are truly organized, talented and kind people. So, that left my impression more positive than say other companies (think: Avon, Tupperware...etc).

The big hub bub was the change of their agreement where they would ask their demo to not be on other stamp companies design team. They're not to FB or Tweet anything but SU, and if they blog, they can only blog about using SU stuff and not any other companies. If they have link to someone else's blog, they also needed to be SU and if they're not, they should not have that on their blog. The last part really rub alot of people the wrong way.

Here's my take, and again, I'm not a Demo, I don't have the full point of view as alot of the people had out there. But, here's me on the soapbox:

I work for a big firm, in compliance no less. The bit about not being in another companies DT, I'm on their side. It is like me working for my current company and on the side work for another firm. This is a straight conflict of interest. You can't play for SU and also play for the competing company that sells stamps. Except, unfortunately in this case, is that SU sell every single damn thing under the sun, so you can't even represent an ink company, a die cut company, a scrapbooking company, and now vinal wall covering company.

The bit about what you can say or not say on FB & Tweet or blog, that's a different story. I think I have the luxury here that my work and my hobby contrast so vastly that there is a very clear, defined line of what is work and what is not work. Stamping, crafting, crocheting, dancing, skating, playing tennis...etc are hobbies. Financial and Compliance anything are work. So, that's a very clear and easy to distinguish.

Unfortunately for the ladies out there, this is work and this is hobby. The line is so muddled that there's no line. But! It keeps them sane, give them an outlet, and gives them a diversion on whatever they're doing. If they are successful, that is truly one of the lucky few who gets to do what they love and earn a living at it. But, as reality goes, there are a rare few out there.

I'm saying that, not because they're not successful in nurturing their business. But, let's face it, with the recent economic downturn, high unemployment rate, market struggling to regain position. Who has the extra income to buy stamps? I mean, I am buying $1 stamps. I'm not spending $25 for 4 stamps.

Alot of the Demos are very displeased that they have to abide by the linking to non-SU people rule, simply because places like Splitcoast and Paper Craft Planet had nurtured a community. They help each other out, they learn from each other and be there for each other, albeit in the most cyber sense of those sentiments; but a community nontheless.

They made friends via those venues and link their blogs on to each others. Now, the IDA read as though if your friend works for another company you shouldn't be linked. I think that is a tad bit extreme. On my FB page I link to people whom I've worked with and are now in different companies, and no one can stop you from being friends or related to people that work for different, if not competing, companies. That bit is a tad silly.

Am I going to boycott SU as a company? No, so long as they keep having good color for card stock, and good stamps. I will patronize them as I see fit. Just like if I see good stamp design by another company, I would go for them too. I'm equal opportunity on that, just like clothes. If it's something that fits and I look good in, I'll buy it. If not, I'll go to the next place.

Sorry for being MIA. I think my muse went on vacay during summer along with every kids in school.

I'm back, working on stuff, I'm actually looking forward to Xmas cards. I know I'm crazy. But hey, if Walgreens & Michaels managed to roll out the Xmas stuff before Fall has even began, we can work on Xmas cards.

You know what... I'm totally addicted to any stamps that's a chandeliere and any stamps that's a damask. I'm not sure what the fascination is, but I'm addicted. I must have at least 3 chandelier stamps and about 4 different size and shape damask stamps. Like I said, I'm crazy.

As the French say, je ne se quoi, there's something about them that express the fanciness and the classyness without too much fuss or muss... It's simple, classy, and clean. Ok, I'll admit, sometimes it looks like wallpaper too, but in a nice way.

Alright, got a big project at work that I gotta hack into. But hope you're having a great day!

I'm a tad sluggish these days, so no craft coming out of me. But I did make a bunch of cards for Rubber Romance's DT call. I didn't make it, but I love the images so much, I kinda didn't care. I do but I don't, ya know?!

Anyway, I love the Divas, and this is one of them. She's scootin' around town. I like to picture she's in San Francisco or something, just scootin along in her French lookin' outfit. Oh, totally off tangent: I'm going to take French in September. Tre' excited.

Ok... back on to my little pity party. I think my mojo went on a late summer vacay. I went to Michael's and tons of fun stuff to be had, I even broke budget and bought some stuff. (I need stamps like I need a hole in my head) BUT! They had couple Martha sets that were on sell, so I couldn't resist.

However, once I got home, sat down, get all good and ready to work, nada. I mean, zilch, nil, zero, niet, nothing. So, I ended up surfing the web once again.

Oh well, hopefully it'll come back soon...

Not a whole lot to update here... I took the easy way out to the card today... it's a scrap card. This is the Anna Griffin's card pack. Everything is pretty straight up. I just love the quote. It's said: "No act of kindness however small is ever wasted. - Aesop"

I was thinking how growing up we have all the Aesop's stories that teach us a moral or a lesson. And how, in this day and age, it seems to be overrated. I'm not sure if all the technology is taking over or what. Anyway, I started to do some research about the stories that are forgotten. You can go here to see them.

I just like the idea, like parables, that while it is teaching a lesson it is also telling a story. People don't write like that anymore where they allow you to think about the results and let you draw your own conclusion and yet you arrive at the same point as the author wants you to go.

Anyway, absolutely have nothing to do w/ the card. I thought it's nice saying and I like how it used so little words to express such a grand idea. I love it and this is a great card as a thank you to my friend. :) One stone two birds.

So, continuing with the series... here's another one for the class. It's modeled after this. I was thinking about doing the little dots and spackles, but then decided against it. I was thinking maybe some swirls, but didn't want to card to be too busy. But, now looking at it, seems like some of them got divided one side versus another.

Frankly, as I always tell students that your recipients, unless they're creative by profession, they're just going to be greatful that you took the time to make them a card. As that is part of the personal touches you put into your annual ritual of card-sending. No one is going to nit-pick over it. It's just a person preference at that point.

I'm telling you, I was psuedo-cleaning my craft room, I found my awesome stickie rub-on, where you rub on the figure and then rub the flock or glitter on. I love those things... so I'll be looking forward to those. Another type of fun stuff that I'm looking forward to, was the shiny foil paper. You basically have the stickie image, place your foil, nice and neat, and off you go... come off with the image. I also like to do the negative/positive thing too. Where, one rub is the positive image, and cut out the negative part for another card. Yes, I'm a cheap-skate, but it's useful more than once, then why not? I'd like to think that I'm frugile.

Anyway... off to work...

So, 3 of 5 for the card class....

This is a CASE on this. The other day, a friend was asking, how come it doesn't look exactly like the card I referred to. I was telling them that the idea is not to make an exact copy of what they have. The idea is that they inspire me to make something, and yes, it's awfully close to what they have on their design, but they are professional printing, I'm not. So, that makes up the difference... I think.

Anyway, this is an easy peasy kinda card. I guess I can stand to have more swirls, but I like my star swirl, which the other stars got covered by the flower, but still, I like my star swirl.

I totally forgot I have the Xmas set from Autumn Leaves. Does that ever happen to you? Where you are flipping around and to your surprise you have these awesome stamps? Yes, that happens to me alot. So much so that I've bought duplicate stamps because I thought the stamp is so cool... Totally forgot that I already own it. Go figure.

Meant to do this earlier, but hey, better late than urh... not do it, right?

Anyway, so as my card class, 2nd class being featured, is a CASE of this from a catalog.

I know it's not exactly the same, but the idea is that whatever people deemed is fancy at home, can achieve similar results. It's not meant to be the EXACT result of what the professionals have. Frankly, to the untrained eyes, people would've thought that you bought that instead of making it. So, that's that.

By the way, I'm lovin' my silver and white embossing powder. They are like crack, it's so fun to make things fancy. Trust me, I have a whole tupperware full of gold embossing powder, and I will never get tired of it, but let me tell you the white and silver are too much fun. I also got black ones, so hopefully I'll get to play w/ that this weekend. Now if I can only find the time... hmmm....

So, I'm creating a class for the upcoming quarter at Sew Crafty. The theme is to make cards like the pros.

Truth be told, it is all inspired by the multitude of catalogs I get from work. Since we are a corporation, they often try to get you to think about client cards and what not before the holidays, so if you still have a budget, you would've blown it on cards instead of something else before the holidays gets here.

So, one of the cards I saw in the catalog. It's a good way to show people how easy it is to stamp and emboss a card and be done with it. No more need to cave into the commercial silly cards, when you can make one that's fast and easy and impressive to friends and family.

I may go back and put some twinkling H2O on the star, but I'm still debating about that... I do want to have some red dots but I'm debating on that too... I have to mull it over first.

Well, this is my last card for my thank you friend series. I like how the patterned paper worked well w/ the card and stuff. It just makes me happy when things all come together.

I've been a busy girl. I finished a penguin and had to sent it off to my friend, who is giving it to her sister. I have to prep for my fall classes, a la the candle. I still need to do a quick write up for couple more things. I'm like going in 15 directions and just one me and one head to go around. Hmm....

Well, hubby had his wisdom teeth out today... Poor guy, puffed up like a fish... it's kinda funny though... I know, I'm mean for taking joy in others pain. But, who else could I pick on? ;)

So, I am looking to teacha class in stamping on candle, so I figured that I'd better get some practice in there... First try, and it was a success! W00t!

I used couple different tutorial that teaches the same thing (just had to make sure, ya know). One of them here, another one here, and one from Splitcoast. See, told you, just needed to make sure.

What frusted me at first was that they all said to do it on tissue, but didn't say what type. I hope they weren't talking about tissue you sneeze into, because they are lousy at absorbing ink and don't even try to color them in. I don't care if it has aloe in it or not, it's just going to be hard and fuzzy with the fuzz sticking to my markers.

Just so you know, and for my own reference in the future far far away. =P I ended up doing it on tissue paper, the type you gift wrap with or make like the bag is fuller than it really is. Hee hee.

Also, I saw some tutorial ask you to use Staz On ink, I didn't find that necessary. As long as you get a good image, it'll work. I did have the SU ink leak thru the tissue paper, versus my Paper Salon licroice is fine.

In terms of coloring in the image, if you have the swirls that no coloring is necessary, it does come out very pretty. For a hallow image like this one, I had used color pencils, that didn't work out very well because of the lead, but if you use the wax pencils, that turned out very nice.

Some people recommend you to wet your tissue a tiny bit to shape it, if you use brand new tissue paper, that wouldn't really be an issue. But, if not, I see why they suggest that. But when they say little, they really mean little because no heat gun can heat it fast enough to seal it into the candle.

The neat thing about this is that once you heat it, you can really see it sealed into the candle, and you can't see the paper at all. That's pretty neat. My thing is, if you use wax paper, and you should; don't reuse it more than twice. The previous melts does take off some color and it will mixed to a new project. Also, the paper itself, since it's wax (well duh on me) it does melt the candle kinda funny. You can't see it here, but I did take off some of the bottom that melted funny.

I do recommend using a bigger pillar candles, because for a small candles like this, I have some big pretty image that wouldn't fit. The other thing is that the edges can easily melted by accident. So, if you have a big pillar, it just gets melted and cooled back into it; versus, the edges of the small one gets warp out of shape.

For cooling, I do roll it around to 'seal' it some more before peeling off the wax paper. It seals so well that it doesn't really matter about how much it suck in. For the parts that didn't fit, use an x-acto knife to cut it. It's easiest to make it nice and clean.

Try it out, I'm having alot of fun making these.

This is 3 of 4 card series for my friend Kristine... She's an awesome cupcake baker, and if anyone has a birthday, she would bake couple dozen. And it's awesome frosting...

I thought this is awesome of her and her cupcake and thought it's only right to have a cupcake card in the series for her.

My idea w/ the card originally was like Savvy Stamps where you have the pretty background and then a stamp in the front. The problem is, sometimes what works out in my head doesn't translate in person or reality. My thing, usually, is that I like alot of lined stamps (which is what this medallion stamp is) versus solid stamps. That's what I buy most of the time, and that works better w/ a background like this. Also, I'm sure if my ink was lighter color, like w/ shadow inks, that'll work too. Hmm...

Anyway, I just thought the pearls are so Kristine that works well together. Nice gate background, nice cupcakes, and nice pearls. :)

This is 2nd card for my friend Kristine who got me the Hello Kitty messenger bag. I liked how this turns out, her favorite color is green and I know this will hit the spot. Plus, Daisy is just a friendly flower (You've Got Mail reference).

Well, I'm just so thrilled today... while browsing the CHA reports. CHA is essentially a trade show, except it showcase a trade that I'm interested in... Crafts & Hobby. So, there are alot of paper companies, stamp companies, yarn companies...etc showing up at this show. One new feature this year is that they have a separate show for public. Previously, the show in July takes place in Chicago, and it's really an industry thing where you have to be working for a store/company in order to attend, you really can't buy any products since they're showing what's new for them.

This year, they opened it up, and it will be a mecca of companies showing off their new stuff and I suspect tons of fun craft stuff going on... I'm mighty jealous. First off I've always wanted to go. Secondly, they are having the show in Florida's Disney World. I'd love to go.... *sob sob*

Well, anyway, back to what I found while browsing all the reports. Luckily all the awesome people post on their blogs what they saw, sights, sound, and pictures... This year's new thing: Letterpress by Quick Kutz. Can I tell you that I'm uber excited about it?

First off, I'm a big letterpress fan. Whenever I'm in Chicago, I make a point to go to Paper Source, because they have the beautiful letterpressed images for cards. Second, just the art of it, I find it fascinating. Back in the olden days, that's how they make print material. Fast forward to present day, that's how alot of people have their cool cards or wedding invitation. So, I'm uber excited. The other thing I'm uber excited about... I believe it will be compatible w/ Cuttlbug, which is a big time hooray for me. No need to buy another gadget, but still get to enjoy the thing I love, Letterpress. *drool* Don't take my word for it, go check it out. They're not shipping until Sept/Oct, so I'm going to be itching for the months to come to get my little hands on the gadget, but it'll be so cool!!!!!

It's Monday again... I swear, as you grow up, the hours of the day goes by faster on weekends than weekdays. When I was little, they seem to be all pretty even, but now, it's harder to enjoy the weekend when you have stuff to do, and during the weekday you're thinking about what you need to do for the weekend. It's a vicious cycle.

Anyway, that said, I made this card for my friend Kristine in Atlanta. One day, she called to get my address. Then, next thing I know, 2 days later, I got a Hello Kitty Messenger bag. It's funny, once people know what you like they will find things that you didn't know existed out there. What's more awesome, is that my friends will know it's me and get it for me. Talk about awesome friends!!!

Anyway, she sent me the bag and I wanted know send her something nice in return. So, I did some cards for her, so I'll be showcasing them here this week.

She's very much a monogram type person, so a card like this would be great for her. I found my Paper Salon tins, you never know where I hide things... (side bar: the other day I went to Archivers to buy some stickers, and I don't know where they went now. I know it's in my crap room (aka the craft room) but no idea where I hid it.) So, things turn up occasionally when I'm not looking. And there they appeared, very serendipitous. So, it's perfect for a monogram card.

I also got me some Martha's Alpha on discount, so here I got my card. Yay!

Thank you everyone for pitching in on the window card. There was a question about what type of ink to use best with the plastic. The answer is StazOn. I had used craft ink and didn't work too well. Frankly, I'm still afraid to touch it, little to say send it to someone. So, that'll be a re-do. Anyway.... on to the card!

Every so often I will scower Hobby Lobby, Michael's and JoAnn's clearence bin and see what I can find. Some days I have better luck than others. I usually have better luck right after they have a new shipment of new stuff. Sometimes being inside the city doesn't serve that purpose either... I tend to find better deals outside of the Loop in the suburbs areas.

So, I had picked up a bunch of Anna Griffin's card packs. I don't think they make those anymore. But I picked them up for $2 and it's just fun and I love them. The main reason is that sometimes when I'm in a rut, I can just play around with what is given and hopefully jump start from there.

I had fun playing w/ this set, and I did deviate from their suggestions. It's kinda neat to just not think and follow instructions once in a while. Can I tell you that this project had me revive my Bow Easy? If you don't know what a Bow Easy is, it's the best $5 I've ever spent on a whim. You can see a tutorial here. And I know you can type Bow Easy in YouTube for instructions.

Basically, it guarantees to have perfect bow every time. The little card is small but you can make 7 different sizes bow. The trick, however, is to remember to go over and under the little thingamajig. If you watch the video, you'd understand. Like I said, best $5 I've ever spent.

Well, my mom requested a bday card for one of the students that she's working with from University of Tokyo. It's kinda neat because naturally you think, the students must be from Japan or definitely Japanese native. Turns out, they accepts students from all over the world. I know it's not something so astounding considering we do too here in the States. But for a country that's not a melting pot like us, to accept students from Indonesia, India is kinda a stretch to me. Not only do you have the language barrier, you can only attend classes in English. Of course, unless they already fluent in Japanese. But I just find that very interesting.

Anyway, the card is for one of the students that's here for the summer that's participating in a research program. My mom, being a giver that she is, is going to host a BBQ on top of doing the gift thing. I'm thinking she's being reimbursed for it, but no... she's doing it out on her own. Urm... ok... no one can stop her, I guess. Just hope everyone appreciates it.

I'm so tired of not creating... is that backwards or what? I want to create, I do, but when I do get a chance to sit down, my muse decide to go on vacation... I know, I know, lame excuse, but it's true.

So I finally force myself to sit down and work. I pulled out my favorite color palette and nada. I tried to surround myself with pretty pretty paper, and nothing. I made myself to go back to the stamps I have and see what I have to play with, zilch. So, I went to my favorite stamps and see what I can do, and this is what I made.

I've always like the 40s-ness of it. I wish I have more stamps that are like that. I've checked out Bombshell Stamps, but they are a tad edgier than my 40s primp and proper type feel. Don't get me wrong, I love their stamps, but I prefer these type. (Yes, I do watch the Donna Reed show, and I do think the puffy dress and wit is great). I guess alot of the stamp companies who dare to go retro, either thinks it has to be tattoo feel, or groovy feel. They did have some fabulous clothes, ya know. I digress.

So, anyway, I went for the easiest route for layout and got something going. Hope that is simple yet, 40s-ness.

I feel so sad, I've tried to sit down and make cards, and nothing is coming. Nilch, nada. I think my muse went on vacation. :(

That said, I've been browsing other blogs. Here's one that I stumble upon and just love. It's called One Pretty Thing , and they are awesome. Every week they have different types of round up of links on the internet and they pull it to one place. Some times the links I've seen from various blogs, but some that I may have skipped over and they show it to me, like it's new again. So, it's very neat. Go take a look!

I saw the Craft Plastic at the store and I had a $25 gift card burning a hole in my pocket. I'd figured what the heck.

So, here's my thing about craft plastic. Either I don't know what the hell I was doing, or I'm not using the right ink, or just a user defect. Here's why:

I got the plastic, and I cut just enough for the card front and a tad to overlap to the back, because I'm a cheapskate. I didn't want to kill the entire piece of plastic, which that's what I do w/ paper too. That's probably why I have so many little bits and pieces of scrap papers.

ANYWAY! So, I stamped it w/ white ink and thought, ok... that'll work. It looks pretty, it looks good. Except, I smeared the image. You can't tell, it was quite strategic... NOT! But, you can't see it. I tried to take a picture of it, and some of the ink is on my thumb. Hmm... :-/

Well, I don't think I'm brave enough to emboss or attempt to dry it off... so I'm going to try again with another type of ink. So, wish me luck.

purse box tutorial

So, I've been meaning to do a tutorial for a while, just didn't have the time, and blah blah blah excuse. Finally, I got the pictures, the measurements and all that jazz. If you want to know what it looks like first, then scroll to the bottom, otherwise enjoy the tutorial. :)

1, Ok... start w/ a piece of 12X12. Cut it to 11 3/4X 11 7/8. The length is the 11 3/4 side.

2, Score the top and bottom side 3 5/8. The middle should be 4 5/8. The middle will be your 'bottom' of your box.
3, On the 2 side flaps, cut off 1 inch both on top and bottom, leave the middle part in tact. It should look like this:
4, on the side flaps, this is where it gets tricky. Make sure whatever you do on one flap it's done equally on the other. Otherwise it will not close properly. (pardon the yellow paper w/ the notes, hee hee)

On one of the flaps: make sure to leave the middle of the flap 2 inches, which means left and right both should be 3 7/8 from the edge.

This is where it gets tricky: you're going to score in the a shape of a fat W, except the middle point will be way higher than the 2 outer prongs. On the outer 2 prongs of the letter (like a V), you go from the 3 7/8 from the base of the flap outwards 2 7/8 on both sides.

In the middle 2 prongs (the upside down V part), again from the 3 7/8 outward 3 3/4. The 2 sides essentially met at the middle. The middle point should be 3 inches from the outer 2 prongs.

When you cut the part from the apex of the point to the top of the outer prongs, to the edge, it should look like this:

Make sure you do it on both sides. Which will look like this: (go ahead and fold the W). This is also tricky, the outer 2 prongs of the Ws is a valley fold, the inner 2 prongs are mountain fold. So, it should prop up like this:

When you do it on both sides, it should look like below. What you should do is for the middle panel, match the 2 sides and score the base of the purse. It should come out to be 2 inches wide. The beginning point would be the bottom 2 points of the W fold, and both sides should match up.

On the longer middle panel, go ahead and fold the 2 flaps and make sure the short part of the flap (the non pointy parts) meets in the middle. Then fold in about an inch on both ends to secure the flaps.

When everything is scored and folded, you now can prop and fold them up. The 2 pointy part of the W fold is the side of the purse box. So, you need to make sure that the tip of the fold and the 2 sides, matches with the 2 sides nicely. So, go ahead and fold everything and make sure they all line up nicely too.

When the box is pull flat, one pointy flap will overlap each other. But when you are ready to put it in box form, they should pull up nicely.

Now, you should punch 2 holes on the middle panel on the 2 ends. One punch per end. Then insert ribbon thru the middle lengthwise. The length of the ribbon is really up to you. I did 1.5Xs the length of the box flattened that way once it pulls up, there's enough room to tie a pretty bow.
So, after all that - Voila! A purse box!

So, give that a try, and let me know if the pattern doesn't work or if you have any questions. Hope you enjoy it.

Here's my attempt at making a scene... no on the ones in public, though blogosphere is very public type of place. But making a scene w/ stamping.

Trust me, I've had proper instructions... you stamp it, mask it, then brayer it. First off, I have very little patient. Second, I always managed to muck up anything that has to do w/ a brayer. Third, I don't even know where it went... I think I may have donated it on my first hiatus. Nice, huh?

Well, so, here we are... a faux scene. It, ideally (read: in my head), is a very nice concept. You put them together, little doe looking up at the bird who is guarding the nest. But, it's hard when the real branch doesn't come from a tree... I can't put it too high because then the doe is not looking at the bird but looking into blank space. I can do photography composition better than using inanimate objects and try to put them together. Geez louise.

So, there is also my attempt to make grass happen nicely. It happened... that's all I can say about that. Maybe another try soon... we'll have to see.

I know I've been neglecting my blog here, but just I was hoping I'll get to be helpful for my friends... so while I was hoping I'll get to be called on, I ran errands and stuff instead of making cards. It's totally my fault...

Anyway, onto a funner, cuter card... Man, I really need my DH to take better photos... mine are driving me crazy. Usually it's because I'm in a hurry and didn't have time to set up the photo thingy properly to take some decent photos.

That said, this is a fun little card... whenever I see that stamp, I always feel happier. I'm not sure why, but I just feel giddy just seeing it.

I'm working on a tutorial, so hopefully we'll get it done soon.

**This is a special post dedicated to my friends who recently lost their son**

It is always hard to make sympathy cards. It usually mean someone is severely ill or someone had passed. Either way, it's hard to make a card like that for someone.

I understand that I will never understand what my friends are going thru. But I desperately want them to know that I want to be there for them, hug them, hold their hands thru this difficult time.

Unfortunately, everything I can say or do comes out cliche' and hollow. But, I meant them sincerely. Just hope that in time they know that their friends love them, are here for them.

This will be the 2nd funeral I've ever been to in my life. I've been blessed that I didn't have many of those to attend. I did missed a few, one it was just too difficult to go, not only do I not know the person's family (just know her and her husband), but she was the kindest person in the craft world in Houston. I just can't bring myself there, as though, if I didn't go, it didn't really happen. Another one was a dance person, at one point he was a good friend, but towards the end, he pushed alot of his friends away, and I just didn't feel right going.

So, that brings us here... may he find the peace he needed, and be well taken care of in God's hands.

So, my ex-co-worker is due in August and she invited me to her shower. It was not your typical ladies sit around and ooh and ahh the baby stuff. It was families from both sides and I'm not used to having alot of guys in the same room with baby games and stuff. Anyway, the good thing was that you know there's guys to take pictures and haul large items.

Well, this is the card I made for her. She's a blonde, it's funny, because her hair naturally looks very very blonde, and you want to think that it's fake, but now that she's having a baby, and aren't allowed to dye it, I'm beginning to think it's her natural color. Haha, it's silly, I know.

Sorry for not blogging sooner. Stupid work computer. The IE browser kept asking me to sign in. Then it's supposed to route me to my page and it never happens... so I sit. The get-a-round was to go to Firefox, but since I don't normally fire that up... I have to remember to do that.

Ok, Last wedding card....

This is one of my favs. I know it's also the easy way out. I had just stamped the bottom and was going to stamp 2 birds I had from Paper Source. But by the time I did the flourishes and the birds, it just looked so small. So, I dug around for my paper and found this set.

Here's the thing: I'm very averted to cut up any of my patterned paper. I love them, all of them. Yes, even the ones I've forgotten that I had. Every paper I have I wanted it for a reason. Mostly because they're pretty. So, to cut them up, even for the greater good so that someone else can enjoy it; it stills pains me. I mean, it's like hurting one of my children. It's that deep.

Anyway... I am pleased to see that it turned out nicely, and the receiver loved it. So, that works for me. :)

Going back on the slim posting again... I'm working on a crochet project that needs to be out the door this week. Ack!

Alright to continue on with the wedding theme, this is a yellow/purple combo. I didn't mean to use so much brown, but black on yellow seemed very harsh. Brown made the image softer for some reason. So, I just went with it, as they say.

I love this stamp! Frankly, if it's a good silhouette, meaning it's done well but not cheesy or too shadowy, I'll love. I think the patterned paper went along pretty well. I forgot who made the paper, will come back w/ the correct answer, I promise.

Totally didn't have time to create this week, maybe I'll catch some time this weekend. One more day till the weekend, wohoo!

So, as I was saying, this is a week of bridal cards week. This is the 2nd one. I think out of the series, this is the least pazzaz one out of the bunch. It didn't have tons of bling, but it is attempting to be clean and classy.

I was reading one of the many vintage blogs and saw some old designs that they had for wedding dresses, and it was clean crisp and still modern enough for today's culture.

So, I'm thinking... maybe if I can have a card that's just as timeless and maybe it will last a long time. Although, not all recipients keep their cards to infinity or anything. I can't even tell you where the cards from my wedding went. Probably recycled... sorry!

Anyway, Game 6 last night was interesting... it was fun to hang out w/ the boys. Too bad the hubby can't watch Game 7, because we're having a couples outing. It's a group of friends who don't get together as we all used to. Between work and family, it's just getting harder and harder. I know I'll hear grief about it till the end of time, but hey, you don't know the players on that game, but you know your friends... so that's my logic!

I know I've been a slacker and neglect my bloggie, but here I am, I promise!

So, someone commissioned me to make some wedding cards, so this week will be nothing but wedding themed.

I remember the year that we got married I went to 8 weddings that year and one of them was my own. So, I can definitely understand how sometimes you just need wedding cards. Of course, the next round hopefully that I'll get commissioned to make baby cards. :)

Anyway, I wanted to have something simple and elegant, but not to much frou frou, so I did 2 damask and a cake. The reason was, for this girl who commissioned me, I had made her a card for her wedding and it's nothing but damask as a background, and she loved it. So, I was trying to do a little homage to that.

Uncard related... those of you who are keeping up w/ the hockey games, it's time for Game 5, stick to your seats! I'm not particularly partial to one team over another, but it's an interesting match. I'm going to watch the game w/ my husband who favors the Pens and a friend who favors the Wings, so it'll be interesting too w/ the smack talk and what nots.

I know I'm such a sucker for new stamps... But I really like what Christie Beckwith does w/ the lovely ladies. Now here's the interesting thing, I found... her illustrations does well and translate to stamps well, but seems like the ladies stamps translate much better than her men's. Now go figure about that. I don't care that people kept saying how they don't like the skinny headless people. They translate a style and I do not possess but admire, so that's my take on that. Not that the artist can't draw faces, but just having them headless, it allows you to put yoursel for whomever you want in their places. I like them for that reason.

Some artist did well on faces and translate well on stamps. But if you take a look around, for stamping purposes, doing faces well on stamps is difficult. You lose details, alot of emotions have to be kept in simple format or open for interpretation. So, that's why when you go to the store, you don't see too many well done faces without the characters looks like cartoon. I think because of that, that's why the cutesy cartoon characters sell well in this industry.

Alright, enough venting. I got commissioned to do several cards this weekend, I'm kinda excited about that after my little hiatus. The other day I made myself sit there and read a book, and let me tell you, that's such a refreshing thing to do in the evening. I was totally impressed w/ myself.

I'm back!!!! Did you miss me? Ha!

Well, to be fair, I've been back but catching up on lack of sleep was no easy task. I'm telling you, I fell asleep at work a few times. I know it's embarrassing, but I went to help with an event in NYC, and ended up not sleeping much and running around like chicken without its head. It's not pretty. I know how bad it was when the Security Guard looked at me, and offered to go get me water, that's how bad I looked. I tallied up that for the event during my duration in NYC of 1 week, I was consumed w/ 5 days of it, and one day for travel and left one day for playing. Within that 5 days I worked 73 hours at that place. Yep, 73 hours... that's just incredible to me.

Anyway, now that we're back, I can totally relax. Not exactly 100% relax, but at least things will ease up. Trust me, I've been looking forward to June since forever.

So, what a great way to relax but to celebrate? I am all for the drinky drink for a good occasion. And to celebrate the end of the event is definitely a reason for celebration. I know just the stamp to celebrate.

I got this set since when it first came out, just didn't have time to ink it up. Gasp! I know. But, I was thrilled this weekend when I had the chance to play. I wish I have more time to play, but I had fun when I get to do that. I am also vowing to go back to my old stamps and make new things with them... poor old stamps must've felt neglected... So, that's my challenge to myself. What would yours be?

Hey Blog friends,

I'm going on a little hiatus... I had gum surgery last Thursday and then the big dance event is coming up. So, talk about no time to stamp. :( Trust me, it stresses me out not having time to stamp. I just rely on stamping as the stress release/outlet, and between the gum surgery and the dance event, I can really use some stamping good time.

That said, I am hoping to hit couple of the stamp stores in NY. :) So, I'll report back for sure!

So, back in the college days, the guy I was dating was a big time Sci-Fi guy. I think he was a tad short of getting a Storm Troopers uniform and call it a collectable. But, our week was mapped according to what kind of sci-fi TV shows there is. Red Dwarf, Star Trek Deep-Space Nine, Star Trek Voyager. I remember when we watched the shows there was no talking allowed when the show is on; only during commercials.

With the new Star Trek movie out, I can't help but reminisce a little. Not for the show itself (don't even ask me about some episode about some alien, they're all the same to me), but the silly characters they had. When my friend and I went to Vegas this last bout, we made sure we went to the Star Trek Experience. Get insulted by the Klingon, and ate at Qwartz's bar. I bought a Ferengi's t-shirt. That's about as geeked out on Star Trek as I can get.

I kinda wanted to see the new movie, but not because of this odd loyalty to the show, as much as the hot guys. Or rather, I should say, hawt guys! W00t!

Well, when it comes to spacey stamps, I immediately hope to the Cat's Pajama's stamps. The kitty and the space ship is so perfect, like a Spock or something... Just wish I can have a Resistance is Futile stamp to stamp something... that's applicable in so many situations.

I got my little hands on this hawt set of stamps... it's just so me and my girlfriends. We oogle over the latest bags and trends. We like to think that we're some sort of fashionista, but we're not. You see us in jeans and t-shirts and keds most days... So, none of the chi-chi high fashion for us.

I wish my inner diva is what I have on the outer, maybe then I'll dress better. Trust me, though, I'd take jeans and t-shirts over high heels any day.... Unless they're comfortable, then we can talk.

I also got a new DCWV paper stack ... well, not new-new per se, but new to me. Called Sweet Shoppe, how adorable is that?! Too cute.

This week has been stressy and tough. The event I was telling you guys about is about to be here in 2 weeks. That's not the fear of it all... the stress comes from all these inquiries, some aren't very nice. Some I just wish I can reach over via email either slap those people upside their heads or just shake them real hard and say: YO! This is a non-profit event. Remember the guy that died, the reason you still have a dance to learn from, the inspiration to many. Hello... he's the reason why you're doing this. Not some petty thing you think is the reason. Gah! My week thus far has been, Jerk Tuesday (aka waterworks Tuesday for me), Scammers Wednesday, then Scammer Remix Thurs added w/ a hint of jerk in there. That's been my week. Oh, and that's not even from my paying job. Geez.

When can I stamp again?
